A view of the former E.F. Sorocabana station at Santos, Avenida Ana Costa. This is one of the most pungent landmarks of railroad scrapping in Brazil: this former very important station, at the main Brazilian harbour, along with its switching yards, maintenance works and storage buildings were sold in the beginning of 2000. A shopping center, hotel and convention center will replace this former busy railroad station. As the song says,

Um raio atravessa a nação
E cem anos se passam num dia!

(A lightening strikes the country/And a hundred years passed in a day). Click here to see this station in 1946. This photo was shot by Carlos Alberto Rollo, from São Paulo SP, in April 1999, just after the station was sold. The lyrics above were extracted from the song Mickey Mouse em Moscou, from the Brazilian rock group Capital Inicial.
