Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil
The E.F. Noroeste do Brasil - or simply N.O.B. -, built in the beginning of the century, serves mainly the west of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul states, then a remote region of Brazil. It crosses one of the most beautiful ecological reserves on Earth,
the Pantanal ("swampland") linking Bauru, in the center of São Paulo state, with Corumbá, in the Brazil-Bolivia border. It was planned to extend it to the Chilean Arica harbour, in the Pacific Ocean, but this transcontinental railroad project was never completed. E.F. Noroeste do Brasil was the first railroad of the R.F.F.S.A. network to be privatised, in 1996. Its new name is Novoeste.
