Join with other teachers from across the state who are passionate about teaching mathematics for a couple of days of "math camp" this summer to share your love of teaching. If you are interested in improving your math teaching skills, if you work with other teachers in your building, district, region, or around the state to improve math education for all, or if you like to share activities and resources with your colleagues, then yes, OML is for you! Whether it's developing engaging teaching strategies, uncovering misconceptions about teaching math, or finding new ways to connect with and inspire students, we all have insights to share. This is what teachers will do as they are “Communicating” at this year's OML.
Oregon Department of Education (ODE) assessment specialist Bryan Toller and math curriculum specialist Mark Freed will address state and national trends, provide updates on opportunities statewide to become involved at a local level, and respond to your questions and comments. You will be able to express your concerns and hear how decisions are being made or what's on the table and how to provide your input. This year they will be addressing elementary and secondary concerns separately, so everyone will get the focused information they need. The Oregon Department of Education has always valued teachers’ knowledge and their important role in developing our students’ understanding of important mathematical concepts. OML’s founding father and retired ODE math specialist, Don Fineran, put it this way, “Together we have strength, sharing, and service.”

Other advantages to attending OML:
- 16 PDUs
- Option for 1 graduate credit through Southern Oregon University ($75)
- Fun! We have an organized social where you can make new friends and connect with old ones, and an awards banquet to honor some of our amazing peers. And even if you are brand new to OML and don’t know anyone, you can always find people to hang out with in the dorms in the evening, just like you used to do in college!
Cost for OCTM members: $150 (conference only/no housing), $200 (conference with housing), if registered by July 6; prices $50 higher if registered after July 6; no registration after 7/20. Nancy Anderson Memorial Workshop: This year's Nancy Anderson Memorial Workshop for pre-K to 5 educators is "Games That Promote Number Sense." Participants in this session will walk away with a collection of games for students in grades K-5. The session includes background about how each game promotes number sense and the materials to play each of the games with your students. Participation will be capped, so register early!
Authors' Assistance Event (formerly Writers' Retreat): Before OML, on August 2, the third annual Authors' Assistance event will be held for writers for OCTM's award-winning journal, The Oregon Math Teacher (TOMT). With editor approval, participants who author several articles for TOMT will have OML registration fees waived. The event will include a meal and editing help from experienced math writing coaches and Authors' Assistance facilitators. Participants must submit ideas for several articles and a draft of one by June 1 and rough drafts by July 15, and will modify and complete their articles at Authors' Assistance. Contact Marie Cramer with questions.
Registration for OML is now closed.
Registrations by mail must be postmarked by July 20, 2018.
Please remember that all attendees will need to be OCTM members. If your registration covers multiple attendees, each must fill in a registration form. Registration confirmation and all future conference information and updates will be sent through email, so registrants need to provide email address(es) that participant(s) can and will regularly check for vital information sent between now and the conference dates. You may pay by check or purchase order if registering by mail. Please provide a contact number and name for the district business office. The university needs names of attendees as per the contract. If you are using a PO from fiscal year 2017-18, the PO and registration form(s) are due June 30, 2018. If you are using a PO from fiscal year 2018-19, send the PO and registration form(s) by July 6, 2018 to register at the $200 (housing)/$150 (commuter) rates. POs and registrations postmarked after July 6 will be invoiced at the $250/$200 rates.
